Visit to the real India, rural India

This weekend, I was on a visit to Varadharajanpetai. If you are wondering were this is, it is here . The purpose wasn't trekking or just a rural sightseeing but to visit and inaugurate an evening study center for kids. A colleague from this place named Rajan is already conducting one such center in his own home! Huge thanks to him, the Kids, typically studying in nearby government school, who lack basic facilities to study at home now see some light and have some fun too! His mother is making stellar contributions managing it all along with household chores and their farm lands. Following the inauguration of the study center at a nearby locality, where the government school itself would be the center, we interacted with the children. Here is what I found out:
they don't know chess but, play carrom ; they don't know much about our our country's important places but, have been taught about locations of politicians' samadhis (graves) ; they all claim to know about telephony and took our mobile numbers too ; they don't read newspapers but watch TV news; they seem to know about more career options than myself. Also, as the trend has been in recent years, girls outsmart boys!

After this we originally planned to visit Gangaikondacholapuram but changed our mind and visited nearby district(s) where a previously infamous naxalite runs 60 study centers in 2 districts and 1 tailoring class and 1 computer training center now - all for free! We met the teachers who oversee the even study centers, all women, some of them still in college, promised support to our talent search competition initiative by Everest, a volunteering group within Cognizant.
